Full Moon in Gemini

full moon | Gemini | Dec 15, 2024

This full moon chart has a lot to unpack… conflicting messages, unclear answers, everything feels like it’s in a bit of a fog. Gemini is the trickster, and with Gemini’s ruler, Mercury, in it’s final moments before stationing direct in this chart — nothing is as it seems.

Usually the full moon illuminates, brings clarity, and offers a resolution, completion, or climax of the energies. In this chart, we are still very much sifting through the details and wondering what is what.

Each zodiac archetype has both shadow and highest expressions, and with this full moon we are more likely to be experiencing the shadow aspect of the Gemini archetype. Gemini is the twins, ruling the dual nature of our minds. In it’s shadow expression, the twins can’t make up their mind. Is it this way or that?

You’ve heard the expression “talking out of both sides of your mouth” — this is the perfect expression to encapsulate the Gemini shadow. It’s contradictory, it’s saying one thing and meaning another, it’s the tendency to be “two-faced”. Nothing is what is seems, and nothing is for certain.

The layers of this chart that indicate the overall lack of clarity and illumination are many, so let’s dive in.

Mercury, the ruler of the chart, is about to station direct under this full moon. However, when any planet is ABOUT to station, it comes to a standstill. Mercury is currently at a standstill, but still in retrograde. Mercury rules the mind, intellect, communication, and thoughts. At this point, we have no idea what to think about whatever Mercury has had us revisiting over the last 3 weeks.

Mercury is also in opposition to Jupiter, the ruler of the Sun in Sagittarius. With Mercury in Sag and Jupiter in Gemini, they are both in each other’s sign which is called mutual reception. This could be beneficial, but in this case, both are in exile, and Mercury is stationary. Jupiter’s expansive influence is only going to amplify Mercury’s confusion in this chart.

Another challenge we have in this chart is that the full moon is in square to Neptune. Neptune is always going to bring an otherworldly influence, but in a square we will see the shadow side of Neptune: illusion, confusion, deception and fantasy. Again, nothing is as it seems.

Although Mercury will station direct some hours after the full moon reaches it’s peak, this station direct will not bring the usual AHA moment of clarity and forward motivation… this is because Mars (our planet of movement, action, ambition, and forward momentum) is still in retrograde. Mars will remain in apparent backwards motion until Feb 23, meaning we are still in an energetic of slowing down for the next few months.

Finally, the rulers of the nodes — Venus and Mars — are in opposition in this full moon chart. This further complicates the matter, and brings the theme of relationships into the storyline of this full moon. With the north node ruler Mars in retrograde, and Venus approaching Pluto in opposition to retrograde Mars. This entire setup has a karmic energy that could be inviting us to revisit some patterns from the past, always with the intention to respond differently, specifically when it comes to romantic relationships.

As we are finishing out our final month of Aries / Libra nodes, you may be experiencing final tests that are pushing you to choose yourself, even if it’s not clear where doing so will lead you (and under these skies, it’s definitely not clear).

A reminder that aligned relationships will always follow the conditions that what is best for one individual’s highest evolution is also what is best for the other individual on a soul level, is also what is best for the relationship. If it’s not this, it’s not aligned.

So how do we navigate this overwhelming uncertainty, confusion, and lack of information?

The answer to the evolutionary path in any chart always lies at the north node. In this case, the north node is finishing up it’s final moments in Aries (a reminder to choose ourselves). The north node is also coming into conjunction with Neptune — a transit that will heavily inform the first few months of 2025.

Neptune at the north node is an invitation to surrender, trust, and hold faith. We may not know exactly where we are going right now or have all of the answers. The external is likely to feel very confusing and unclear. Yet if we can hold onto the one thing we do have — a connection to self — and allow ourselves to be guided by something higher, we can navigate these times with grace.

This full moon is a culmination, but not an illumination. A reminder that the astrological new year begins in the spring on the equinox, and that the energetic of winter is one of rest, reflection, slowing down and tuning inward. Often the gregorian “new year” lacks the bang and ambition we hope for, and this year with Mars in retrograde, that will very likely be the case.

This is a fantastic time to reflect on the lessons and change you’ve experienced in 2024. It is a beautiful moment to go inward and reconnect with self — on the deepest and most essential level. It is a wonderful time to surrender your desires, will, and process to the divine, and let go of the details and the how.

No matter how hard you fight for clarity right now, the answers you receive in this moment might deceive you anyway.

Big love and full moon blessings,

Hannah
