New Moon in Sagittarius

NEW MOON | SAGITTARIUS | DEC 1, 2024

The new moon coming in tonight at 1:21 am Eastern time is interestingly aspected. While in many ways we may be feeling the fire to make big changes, things can also feel unclear (and we may not have all the information right now to make any long term decisions). So let’s dive into why that is…

The new moon is occurring at 9 degrees of Sagittarius, making a grand fire trine to Mars in Leo and the north node in Aries. Mars in Leo can have us feeling impulsive and the north node in Aries is urging us towards our destiny (which is all about choosing ourselves).

This grand fire trine has positive (if reckless) momentum. We have places to go, and we’re feeling lit up about getting there. It will be worth looking at what houses are occupied by the fire signs in your chart to understand where you might be feeling this.

I think of the houses and the elements as having cohesive groupings:

The 1st, 5th, and 9th houses: These houses respectively relate to self-awareness, self-expression, and self-discovery. If you have fire signs in these houses, the grand trine is lighting up your relationship to you, how you creatively express yourself, and how you grow through knowledge and lived experience.

The 2nd, 6th, and 10th houses: These houses respectively relate to finances & material resouces, daily routines & work flow, and career & reputation. If you have fire signs in these houses, the grand trine is highlighting the way you work, make money, and are known for your mission and purpose.

The 3rd, 7th, and 11th houses: These houses respectively relate to communication & siblings, committed long term partnerships, and our communities & networks. These are the social and relational houses. If you have fire signs in these houses, the grand trine is bringing fire to the ways you show up in your relational life to those you are both deeply and distantly connected to.

The 4th, 8th, and 12th houses: These houses respectively relate to home, family & ancestry, shared resources & merging power, the psychic, spiritual & unconscious realms. These are the houses where we learn to feel, express, bond, intuit, and go deep. If you have fire signs in these houses, the grand trine is bringing added focus to your inner world, your spiritual and soul work.

*NOTE: To determine which houses have fire signs in your chart, visit astro.com and input your birth data, choose “extended chart selection” and under house systems select “whole sign” — or book a reading with me to dive into all the houses in your chart. For the next month only, all readings will be 90 mins instead of 45 for the same price, giving time to explore the themes for the upcoming year and set intentions for your next chapter.

Whichever housing group you have the fire signs in your natal chart is receiving a major boost right now, inviting a deeper examination and full speed ahead progress… except… we don’t quite have all the information.

Sharing the same part of the sky as our new moon, we have Mercury — recently stationed retrograde. Mercury retrograde is nothing to fear or fight, but it is certainly not feel steam ahead energy.

When Mercury moves backwards from our Earth perspective, we are being asked to reconsider some area of our lives and look at it from a different perspective. We may learn these lessons from reflecting backwards, rather than moving forwards. It is best not to ignore the roadblocks Mercury might throw into your path during this time. Through careful reconsideration, we often discover that we needed more information to move forward in the most efficient and aligned way.

Mercury retrograde can be some kind of redirection. It might be subtle, or it might hit you over the head. Whatever has been surfacing in your thoughts over the last several days that seems to require reconsideration, this is the topic of your Mercury retrograde assignment.

Take the three weeks before Mercury goes direct to re-evaluate and consider this issue from other points of view. Be open to life pointing you in a new, if unexpected direction.

Jupiter is currently opposing Mercury, which could add an extra layer of intensity to things not going according to plan. For those who are strongly attached to staying in control, this kind of transit can be particularly challenging.

Mercury retrograde is the perfect reminder that when we make a plan, God laughs. We don’t always have the highest vision for how everything could unfold in our limited human perspective. So it is an opportunity to lighten up and surrender. Perhaps things are already unfolding exactly as they needed to (because actually, when are they ever not?)

With the new moon and Mercury both in a square to Saturn, we are reminded to slow down before we can speed up. Perhaps something is not as it initially appears. Perhaps we don’t have all the information to move full steam ahead. Perhaps a pause is called for.

Saturn urges caution and consideration of the long term. While the fire trine might be pushing us towards rash and hasty action, Saturn wants you to consider the long term consequences.

With Neptune stationing, things are never exactly as they appear. Do you have the patience to lean back and see where the cards fall?

What if it is all turning out better than you could have imagined, and you just can’t see it yet?

Big love and new moon blessings,

Hannah
